MISSION BBQ is an American fast casual restaurant chain offering smoked meats, bbq, and sides. Here’s more of the story from their website:

‘MISSION BBQ opened its doors for business on September 11, 2011. Ten years after our world changed forever, in some small way we wanted to change it back. As the founders of MISSION BBQ, we strive every day to remind everyone what makes Our Country great—its heroes.

Who are we? Two friends passionate about BBQ, patriotic for Our Country, and who believe in running a business with meaning and purpose.

We believe there is nothing more American than BBQ. And nobody more American than the brave men and women who have sworn to protect and serve Our Communities and Our Country. We do what we do for the love of our soldiers, firefighters, police officers, first responders—all our loved ones in service.

We set across this great land from Texas to Kansas City, the Carolinas to St. Louis…to discover the secrets of great BBQ.

Every day we strive to serve you authentic BBQ made from the freshest, most delectable ingredients, and serve it to you in a patriotic dining room filled with tributes to those who’ve made Our Country great, given to us by the people who earned them. Stop by at lunchtime, and you might catch us during our daily salute to the Stars and Stripes.

We don’t do any of this because we have to. It’s because we want to. At MISSION BBQ, we are Proudly Serving Those Who Serve. Come help us complete Our Mission.’

Is Marzipan Gluten Free?

Originating in the Middle East, marzipan was considered a luxury item in medieval times due to its use of almonds, which were expensive. Today, it’s more accessible and commonly used in confectionery treats, desserts, chocolates, and by itself!

What is Marzipan?

Marzipan is a sweet treat with a rich history and a simple yet delightful composition. It’s primarily made from ground almonds and sugar, creating a smooth, dough-like texture. This mixture can be shaped into various forms, making it a favorite among pastry chefs and cake decorators for crafting intricate edible decorations.

Some of the most iconic and commonly seen uses of marzipan are the small, realistic-looking fruits like oranges, grapes, and apples. These miniature treats not only showcase the versatility of marzipan but also offer a pleasant contrast of textures – a smooth outer layer with a slightly chewy interior.

Is Yeast Extract Gluten Free?

Is Yeast Extract Gluten Free?

Have you ever come across yeast extract when looking at a list of ingredients and wondered if it’s gluten free? You’re not alone. I found myself in a similar situation recently. And I learned the hard way!

What is Yeast Extract?

Yeast extract is a common food ingredient derived from yeast cells. It’s often used to add flavor to various foods, including soups, sauces, and snacks. Autolyzed yeast extract is a flavor-enhancing ingredient made from yeast cells that have undergone a process called autolysis. During autolysis, the yeast cells are broken down using their own enzymes, releasing various compounds, including amino acids and nucleotides, that contribute to the savory or umami taste in foods.

Yeast extract is derived from yeast cells that have been broken down through a process called autolysis. This specific process creates a rich, umami flavor which is why this ingredient is popular in a large number of products.

Yeast extract is commonly found in a variety of packaged and processed foods, including:

  1. Soups and Broths: Yeast extract is often used to enhance the flavor of canned or instant soups and broths, adding depth and complexity to the taste.
  2. Sauces and Gravies: Many sauces and gravies, including those for pasta and meats, incorporate yeast extract to elevate their overall flavor profile.
  3. Snacks: Certain savory snacks like potato chips, crackers, and popcorn might contain yeast extract to provide a more robust and enjoyable taste.
  4. Vegetarian and Vegan Products: Yeast extract is a popular ingredient in meat substitutes and plant-based products, contributing a meaty or umami flavor without the use of animal products.
  5. Seasonings and Condiments: Some seasonings, condiments, and spreads use yeast extract to enhance their taste, offering a savory kick to various dishes.
  6. Processed Foods: Yeast extract can be found in a range of processed foods, including ready-made meals, instant noodles, and pre-packaged convenience foods.

The Knack Restaurant Review: Gluten Free Burgers and Fries

The Knack Restaurant Review: Gluten Free Burgers and Fries

While visiting Cape Cod, I had the chance to try this cool burger chain called The Knack. After finding a Celiac-safe gluten free burger and fries, I figured I had to share it on the blog too!

The Knack has two locations on the Cape in Massachusetts, one is in Hyannis and the other is in Orleans. Both locations offer gluten free options and have the same menu.

The company shares more about their story: We grew up here. We played on the Cape’s beaches, we swam in the sound and in the bay, and we savored every hour of the late summer sun. Most importantly, we ate. Burgers, lobster rolls, clam rolls, hot dogs, onion rings, shakes, ice cream…we love the Cape’s iconic food. We created the knack with one purpose in mind: to share the food that we grew up with, the food that hits the spot after a day at the beach, the food that defines summers on Cape Cod.
