Hardee’s Gluten Free Menu Items and Options

Hardee’s is an American fast food chain with over 1750 locations around the United States. They serve a large variety of foods like burgers, fries, chicken sandwiches, tenders, and more. They also offer biscuits and burritos for breakfast time. Their menu is eerily similar to Carl’s Jr. Probably because they are owned by the same company, CKE Restaurants Holdings Inc.

  • All nachos options contain gluten.

Summary of Gluten Free Menu Options at Hardee’s

Pro tips and a quick summary of everything gluten free at Hardee’s

  1. When you order at the store or on the app, tell them you have an allergy or Celiac Disease so they take precautions with your food.
  2. Hardee’s has more options than Carl’s Jr. You can get the chicken or beef bowl, some sides from Red Burrito, and a lot of the burgers with a lettuce wrap.
  3. Hardee’s has pretty limited, but good reviews on the Find Me Gluten Free app. The good reviews mentioned lettuce wraps and good practices. The single star reviews all mentioned staff not understanding gluten free.
  4. Personal experiences here are unknown currently. I will update this post if I ever try Hardee’s.

  1. Hi, and thank you for your hard work.

    Two quick questions:

Concerning Hardee’s, 1) Are their buns gluten-free? I know they’re potato buns, but those are often made with wheat (and according to the Hardee’s nutrition site, the burgers are not gluten-free, but I didn’t know if that was because of the bun, or not. Also, 2) I can’t find anything about their MUSHROOM SAUCE–I wonder if they have wheat in their sauce thickening agent. So far, I have been unable to talk to a human there. Thanks very much.

    • Hi Les, thanks for your comment!

      1) They are for sure not gluten free. Typically potato buns have wheat so I’d assume these are the same as they are not advertised as gluten free, etc.
      2) Unfortunately having trouble finding this information too. I would caution against it as it most likely has wheat/gluten as a thickening agent.

      Hope this helps!

Yeah, it’s disturbing that it’s so hard to communicate with the company.

Based on how sick I was, I’m guessing, as you, they definitely use it as a thickening agent in their mushroom sauce. That said, I plan to communicate to the Hardee’s manager to get a more direct line to a human–or look at the cingredients on the can, if that’s how they come.

I’ll keep you up to speed for the benefit of other readers.
