Peroni Nastro Azzurro is a premium lager brewed by Italian brewery Peroni. Popular for its clean and crisp taste, Peroni is the best selling beer in Italy. A beer as crisp and refreshing as Peroni Nastro can be difficult to give up – so can it be enjoyed by coeliacs?

Is Peroni Nastro Azzuro Gluten Free?

The answer is: NO*

 

Even though Peroni Nastro Azzuro is a pale lager primarily brewed from maize, it still uses barley like traditional beers and therefore contains gluten.

As a diagnosed coeliac and frequent pub visitor, I can attest that Peroni’s gluten free alternative larger is very good. But be sure you don’t confuse the two – regular Peroni Nastro Azzuro Larger is not gluten free and will make coeliacs sick.

Francesco Peroni established his first brewery in Vigevano, in Pavia province. It was called Birra Peroni and still bears the founder’s name to this day.

It was a combination of climate, close proximity to the mountains – where ice and glacial water was plentiful – and the quality of ingredients that helped Francesco create such a distinctive pale, medium-strength beer that within a short time had become vastly popular.

  2. Peroni is named after the founding family name and was started in the town of Vigevano, Italy, in 1846

  1. I tried this when I was in Ireland recently and it was the best Gluten Free beer I ever tasted. I live in Long Island NY and am trying to find a place that carries this
