Food allergies affect hundreds of millions of people around the world. In the US alone, 32 million people have food allergies, and the numbers are rising dramatically over time.

Researchers estimate that 32 million Americans have food allergies, including 5.6 million children under age 18. That’s one in 13 children, or roughly two in every classroom. About 40 percent of children with food allergies are allergic to more than one food. (source)

The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention reports that the prevalence of food allergy in children increased by 50 percent between 1997 and 2011. (source)

The numbers of people affected by allergies have only risen since 2011, and many people only discover food allergies later in life, so measuring just children only accounts for so much data.
